Police said on Sunday that three youths murdered a 13-year-old boy in Punjab’s Mansa district on the charge of stealing a pigeon.
They said the body of Raja Singh, a Class 7 student, was found near a tree outside a village in Sardulgarh in Mansa district last week.
According to a complaint filed by the victim’s family, the boy went missing last week in the evening. They told police that an accused had threatened the boy by accusing him of stealing a pigeon.
Based on the statement of the boy’s father, the police filed a murder case against the pigeon breeders. Of them, Tarlochan Singh, Kala Singh, and Teja Singh, who are residents of the same village, were arrested.
This heartbreaking news event has opened eyes to villagers and how quickly simple misunderstandings in villages can turn deadly. The administration has assured the victim’s family that justice will not be denied.
